The team are aware of an issue where Adobe Reader freezes and then crashes when opening a scanned PDF document. We have found a solution which will allow you to still open the PDF without Adobe Reader freezing and crashing.


NOTE: If implementing this fix, you will not be able to edit the PDF. You can still view the PDF.


To fix the issue, you will need to enable protected view in Adobe Reader.


  1. Choose Edit > Preferences.
  2. From the Categories on the left, select Security (Enhanced).
  3. Tick the Enable Protected Mode at Startup and Enable Enhanced Security options.
  4. Choose All Files.
